Crescendo is holding auditions for new members!
We are now auditioning new singers for our Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 concerts.
Crescendo will be holding auditions for the Chorus and the Vocal Ensemble for all voice parts during the first two September weeks. Crescendo’s 2016-17 season will include performances of Renaissance and Baroque, Contemporary and Latin American repertoire. A special highlight will be coming spring’s world premiere of the mutimedia work by John Myers “Paintings in Song: Visions of Norman Rockwell,” composed for Crescendo Chorus, Children’s voices, soloists and instruments on nine images by Rockwell. Performances will take place in Litchfield County, CT and the greater Great Barrington, MA area, including the brand new performing center Saint James Place and the Norman Rockwell Museum. To schedule an audition, send a request to: email@example.com
We ALWAYS welcome engaged and experienced SINGERS to join!
Question: Should I prepare an audition piece?
Answer: Yes, any solo or choral part. It can also be a hymn or folk song. Please bring an extra copy of the music for the accompanist.
Question: What qualifications are expected of applicants for the Crescendo Chorus?
Answer: Singers should be experienced in choral singing and be able to read music. We only accept into our ensemble voices with little vibrato. Depending on the ability to learn quickly and the voice type, we might also accept singers with less muscial knowledge and reading experience. Study materials for the complete repertoire are provided at the begin of the project, so singers with less experience can work on their own. Commitment and dedication are very important qualifications for any singer who wants to join Crescendo.
Question: What is involved in singing with Crescendo in terms of time commitments?
Answer: During the months leading up to a concert, the Chorus usually rehearses one evening per week, currently on Mondays, at Trinity Church in Lime Rock (Lakeville, CT). Depending upon needs, usually there are additional rehearsals, both sectional and of the entire chorus, during this time as well. Special rehearsal schedules for young singers can usually be worked out, recognizing their other commitments. Typically there is one full day rehearsal per season on a Saturday. Production week rehearsals start a week before the concerts with a long Saturday afternoon rehearsal, and includes two rehearsals with orchestra (or instrumental ensemble) and soloists. On the concert weekend, you should plan to be available to Crescendo at all times except Sunday morning, when we recognize that many of our signers have long-term commitments singing in church choirs.
Question: What are financial commitments?
Answer: Chorus members pay a fee at the beginning of the rehearsal period for scores and incidental expenses. For the current project the chorus fees, including practice CDs (or mp3 tracks), scores, and processing, if paying online, total $75, but this is subject to change. Scholarship assistance may be available, particularly for young people who wish to perform with the Chorus.
Question: What is attire for concerts?
Answer: Performance attire for all choir singers is black shirt, black trousers or floor-length skirt and black shoes. The black shirts are with collar (men) and u-neck (women). Crescendo provides a red rose brosche for the women and a red bow tie for the men for the concerts.
